Colonel Jeffery G. Carlton is the Vice Wing Commander of the 120th Airlift Wing stationed in Great Falls, MT. As Vice Commander, he assists the Wing Commander in administering Wing Policies, directives, regulations, and agreements.  He assists in the preparations of Federal and State budgets necessary for the support of the wing. Colonel Carlton is responsible for assisting the Wing Commander with maintaining the combat readiness of the 120th Airlift Wing in the event of an order to active duty for national or state emergencies. He assumed the position December 2017.

Colonel Carlton attended college at the University of Arizona and received his commission in the United States Navy.  He served nearly 11 years as a Navy F/A-18 pilot, accruing over 1000 hours, including a combat tour for Operation SOUTHERN WATCH and culminated in a NATO exchange tour with the Canadian Air Force that included combat operations in the Balkan theater for Operation JOINT GUARDIAN and DELIBERATE FORGE.  After Joining the MT ANG in 2002, he flew nearly 1000 hours in the F-16C as an instructor pilot with numerous deployments for alert in support of Operation NOBLE EAGLE, defense of Korea and an additional combat tour in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.  He subsequently converted to the F15C as part of the initial cadre and served as the 186 FS Director of Operations before moving to 120 AMXS Commander.  After the Wing declared conversion complete nearly a year early, he moved on to serve as the Wing Chief of Staff with command authority of the HQ staff.  In late 2012 he moved to the MT JFHQ as the J-5/7 Chief of Plans, Programs and Training where he managed the State Partnership Program with Kyrgyzstan, led multiple inter-agency exercises and galvanized the MTNG’s Dual Status Command capability for DOMOPS.  In January of 2014 he stood up the 120 AW AFIS program while completing the last major State Partnership Program mission in Kyrgyzstan that validated U.N. Peacekeeping Operations capabilities and domestic response capabilities before his permanent reassignment back to the 120 AW in June 2014.  Prior to his current position, Colonel Carlton was the Wing Inspector General for the 120th Airlift Wing.
